Total Lunar Eclipse Forces Us to Focus on Getting Practical and Doing the Work
The Lunar Eclipse in Virgo happens on 3/3, pushing us to consider issues of practicality, day-to-day organization, and our roles in the community. And it's happening during Mercury retrograde!

What I’m looking at in the sky this week
(How many times have I said in the last several months that Saturn/Neptune in Aries bring war…As I write this, we just went to war. Astrology is amazing, right?)
The second Eclipse in this series hits this week, and what a doozy it is! I’m looking at the Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo.
To prepare for this eclipse in practical Virgo, we have to consider where we need to buckle down and get organized so we can do the nuts-and-bolts work needed to move us toward our Destiny. Remember, eclipses are made by proximity of a New or Full Moon to the Lunar Nodes. This is Fated Energy! This happens to be a Full Moon Eclipse connected to the South Node of letting go. So, think of it as a shove toward decluttering your life. But Virgo is about a lot more than discipline. The Virgin also has to do with health and service, so studying where in the natal chart this Eclipse is landing will help us know how this Lunar event will impact our lives. (Go to the podcast or book an appointment, if you need help with that.) But more on this below.
Oh! And don’t forget! Mercury is still retrograde, so…it’s complicated!
In addition to the aspects I’ll be discussing, you might want to check these out: On 3/4, Venus will sextile Uranus, so unexpected happenings around love/money/art! This is a good one, but expect it to come out of left field! On 3/5, the Sun will trine Jupiter. This is fame and shining in the light of Luck! On 3/7, Mercury will retrograde smack into the Sun, and this is a Cazimi! This is the time when all the Mercurial detritus will get burnt away and our communication, thoughts, etc. will be renewed. Don’t expect to see this fulfilled until after Mercury goes direct. Also on 3/7, Venus will conjunct Neptune, and while I know many of you will oooo and ahhh over this, I’m expecting rose colored glasses to get busted and lies to be uncovered. After all, Venus will sit in the lap of very grounded and boundary-setting Saturn the very next day. So I hope I’m wrong, and this is all lollipops and love notes, but….
MY WRITER friends, this week might be a little bit of a mixed bag. Venus is pulling away from Mercury. And the planet of writers is heading into Cazimi, which means he’s not only retrograde, he’s invisible. Expect to feel like something’s cooking beneath the surface but you just can’t get at it yet. Give it a minute. After Mercury leaves the heart of the Sun, he’s going to begin his path toward the N. Node of Destiny. All that inspiration he received in the heart of the Sun is now going to pay off big. So just hang in there!
Below is the chart for the Lunar Eclipse in Virgo. Notice the Moon is opposing the Sun. This is a Full Moon Eclipse, think Full Moon on steroids. As a reminder, eclipse energy is connected to the Lunar Nodes which means Eclipses are all about fate, karma, destiny. They give us the kick in the pants we need to course-correct, so we’re headed toward our Soul’s goal in this lifetime. If that framework is too woo-woo, they bring necessary life lessons. And this one is happening in Virgo, the sign of the administrator. The Virgin is the most detail oriented sign in the zodiac. Virgo is also all about health and about being of service. So there are several ways this could show up and, however it does, it will require us to get practical, pay attention to details, and do the day-to-day work necessary to move forward.
Another thing to keep in mind is that this is a total eclipse. There’s nothing flimsy about this energy! Dramatic changes are needed if we’re going to move toward our goals. The Moon in Virgo is especially telling here. The Moon is one of the significators of our physical bodies, and as I said, Virgo is connected to health. For a lot of us, this eclipse is going to reveal truth about changes we need to make around health strategies, workout routines, and diet. (This will be doubly true for Aries rising people because this will be happening in your 6th house of health.)
Something is bound to come up (a health scare at worst, some iffy lab tests, realizing you get winded when you walk a block, you get it) to force many of us to reconsider our health routines and get very practical about changes that need to be made. Fill that grocery shopping list with whole foods. Put gym time on your calendar. Schedule your annual exam. These are all Virgo kinds of activities. And then get ready to do the work!
In addition to health matters, Virgo rules being of service. So what have I been saying about the Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries (apart from the war part)? It’s going to bring in a time when a lot of people become more active in the local (IRL) communities. We’re entering a new era when supporting our tribes is going to get very real. This is part of that beginning. Things will be coming up (wars? citizens being attacked? measles outbreaks? Just wondering out loud…) that shed light on how we might pitch in and lend our talents, labor, expertise to helping people/animals/the environment in need.
Remember, the Sun is with the N. Node (expansion) in the stellium of planets in Pisces. And the Sign of the Fish is all about spirituality and dissolving what separates us. This is the area where we expand, but for now, we’ll do that in a very Virgo way. So, many of us will be asking, “how can I help?”

Also, this eclipse brings up decluttering: of the house, the workplace, the mind, the calendar…the list goes on. But Virgo wants order, and the S. Node says one way to fulfill that demand is to let go of anything that doesn’t serve us any more.
Light will be shed on areas of our lives that have been housing a bunch of stuff that only gets in the way. And for some of us, this will be literal stuff. For example, Gemini rising people are getting hit in the 4th house of home and family. They’re going to be very likely to get out the boxes and fill them with all the chipped tea cups, too-tight clothes, and broken lawn chairs. But getting rid of what doesn’t serve can happen in any area of life. Do you need to decrease debt? Ditch art project that don’t make your soul sing? Quit a side hustle that doesn’t pay enough? Dump a friend, a lover, a boss who only causes chaos? It’s time to fill the metaphorical box for the metaphorical thrift store. We need the order their absence brings. And someone else may love that jerk…I mean, person with all that promise.
This Eclipse will impact us all in different areas of life and to different degrees. That’s why it’s very important to see what house is occupied by Virgo in your natal chart. It’s also being complicated by all the other big cosmic events happening. Don’t forget, it’s part of the Mercury retrograde story, so there’s that. Expect the energy to stay strong for up to a couple of weeks post-eclipse. But remember! No matter what gets lit up this week, it’s fated and meant to help us move forward. Happy Eclipse week!
Here’s to a week of exercising our inner administrators!
